In this 1-hour webinar, Dr. Christy Billock will lead participants through an exploration of the growing field of lifestyle medicine and its potential to help expand the reach and nature of occupational therapy's lifestyle-based services. Attendees will learn about the history, key pillars, and interdisciplinary nature of lifestyle medicine as foundational for future collaboration and advocacy. The presentation will consider how lifestyle medicine can align with and complement the scope of practice of occupational therapy, thereby paving the way for broader application of lifestyle-based services and coordinated client care.

- Explain the value of leveraging lifestyle medicine through interprofessional collaborations and advocacy for occupational therapy lifestyle-based services.
- Identify how lifestyle medicine principles can inform occupational therapy education and research to meet society's needs.
Speakers: Christy Billock, PhD, OTR/L, DipACLM
Dr. Christy Billock is a licensed occupational therapist and holds a PhD in Occupational Science from the University of Southern California where her dissertation focused on women’s experiences of spirituality in everyday life. She was a professor for 24 years where questions of meaning, the science of well-being and health, and how it all relates to what we do every day influenced her teaching and scholarship. She currently has a private practice focused on conscious living and dying where she helps others utilize a whole health approach for optimal mental, physical, and spiritual health and well-being. Dr. Billock is a board-certified diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine as well as being a conscious dying coach and death doula. She is the founding co-chair of the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Lifestyle Management Community of Practice.
Dr. Billock has spoken at numerous state, regional, national, and international professional conferences and has published on a variety of topics. She is the recipient of numerous awards including, most recently, the 2022 California Foundation for Occupational Therapy Honored Lectureship and the 2020 Occupational Therapy Association of California Award of Excellence.
