About the Course:

This is a paced asynchronous course designed for participants to obtain introductory understanding of the history, development, and evolution of the Lifestyle Redesign intervention framework. More specifically, the course will address core elements of Lifestyle Redesign; models and theories that inform the intervention framework; review of Lifestyle Redesign at the USC Occupational Therapy Faculty Practice; review of Lifestyle Redesign research spanning from the Well Elderly studies to recent publications; and Lifestyle Redesign informed evaluation, treatment planning, and goal setting. Assignments will assess the understanding of these concepts and provide opportunities to apply case examples to core technique utilization and evaluation processes.

Following the course, participants will be able to:

  • Justify the relevance of Lifestyle Redesign for meeting the prevention, health promotion, and chronic condition management needs of clients and health systems
  • Summarize the history of Lifestyle Redesign applications within and outside of the USC system
  • Distinguish Lifestyle Redesign core characteristics and the therapeutic techniques that support use in clinical practice
  • Explain the theories and models that inform the Lifestyle Redesign intervention framework
  • Interpret the evolution of Lifestyle Redesign research and published findings
  • Apply the Lifestyle Redesign intervention framework to evaluation, assessment, treatment planning, and goal setting processes

Schedule:

This course utilizes a paced asynchronous format. Each participant will have 7 weeks* to complete the entirety of the course including all required lectures, videos, and assignments.  While participants can complete the course at their preferred pace within the 7-week period of time, the course provides suggested dates for module completion that  results in an average of  2-4 hours per week spent on reviewing course lectures and completing assignments.

The course is divided into several modules, which will all be available at the beginning date of the course and progressed through an adaptive release process. Participants must complete all required components of one module (e.g., lectures have been viewed, assignments have been submitted) before proceeding to the next module. All course requirements (i.e., lectures, videos, assignments, course evaluation) must be completed within a 7-week period; your specific deadline will be communicated to you at the time course access is granted.

While synchronous (“live”) participation is not required, there will be opportunities to engage in clinical office hours and communicate with instructors for questions and support throughout the course.

  • Module 1: History and Evolution
  • Module 2: Core Elements of the Intervention Framework
  • Module 3: Research Background
  • Module 4: Evaluation, Treatment Planning, and Goal Setting

*Course access will be granted within approximately 10 business days from the date of registration. The 7-week window to complete the course would begin the day after course access is granted.
