This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge needed to accurately assess sensory integration function and dysfunction in children. Participants will learn about a variety of assessment tools available to measure sensory integration dysfunction. Additionally, participants will use clinical observations and clinical reasoning to develop a comprehensive understanding of sensory differences across multiple clinical populations and the impact of these sensory differences on functional performance.
Learning Objectives:
Following the course, participants will be able to:
• Identify sensory processing disorders in a variety of diagnoses
• Apply the theory of sensory integration in the evaluation process
• Demonstrate critical thinking skills in linking functional and participation issues to sensory processing disorders
• Describe the role of different methods of information gathering during the evaluation process
• Recognize the role of hypothesis generation in the evaluation process
• Apply clinical reasoning skills and existing data to Interpret the results obtained from the evaluation
• Integrate observations with standardized testing and parent surveys
• Plan intervention programs that address the child’s specific needs and follow fidelity principles
• Interpret data collection measures to evaluate the child’s progress
• Integrate all assessment results in order to form basis for treatment plan
Schedule:
Participants will have access to all course material during the 4 weeks that the course is scheduled, and may login and out during that time at their convenience. Participants must complete one module before moving onto the next. There will be an instructor available during the 4 weeks to answer participant questions.

• Module 2: The Evaluation and Clinical Reasoning Process
• Module 3: The Sensory Integration and Praxis Test
• Module 4: Gathering Information- the reason for referral
• Module 5: Existing Methods of Gathering Information: Clinical Observations
• Module 6: Gathering Information – ecological and unstructured observations
• Module 7: Existing Standardized Methods of Gathering Information (focusing on sensory processing)
• Module 8: Organizing Information, goal writing, and report writing
• Module 9: Measuring Changes: Clinical tools utilized to measure the outcomes of the intervention

Prerequisites: Successful completion of Theoretical Foundations of Sensory Integration (CE Course 1).
Audience: This course is designed for OTs as an intermediate level course. Physical therapists and speech and language pathologists may also take the course.

CEU Credit: This course is 21 contact hours (2.1 CEUs). Participants must login and logout of the online platform to access course material. Participants must complete course activities, quizzes, and a post-test and course evaluation in order to receive a certificate of attendance. Certificates will be available within 2-3 weeks after the close of the course.
