October 1 - 29, 2025
This course prepares participants to provide intervention using a sensory integration frame of reference. Strategies for intervention planning and clinical reasoning informed by sensory integration principles are discussed in depth. An overview of approaches to sensory integration intervention for a range of populations in a variety of settings is explored.Learning Objectives:
Following the course, participants will be able to:· Describe the key elements of occupational therapy intervention utilizing a sensory integration approach.· Explain the rationale behind the use of an activity to facilitate adaptive responses.· Utilize clinical reasoning skills to interpret behaviors that might have a sensory integrative base and develop appropriate intervention programs based on SI theory.· Describe the underlying neurophysiological base of SI issues on functional performance.· Develop occupational therapy intervention programs using an SI approach.
Schedule:
Participants will have access to all course material during the 4 weeks that the course is scheduled, and may login and out during that time at their convenience. Participants must complete one module before moving onto the next. There will be an instructor available during the 4 weeks to answer participant questions.
• Module 1: Embedding SI Theory Into Clinical Practice• Module 2: The Art and Science of Intervention• Module 3: SI Intervention for Sensory Modulation Issues• Module 4: Intervention Planning for Tactile Proprioceptive System Issues• Module 5: Intervention Planning for Tactile System Issues• Module 6: Intervention Planning for Vestibular System Issues• Module 7: Intervention Planning for Developmental Dyspraxia• Module 8: Goal Development and Documentation of Intervention Sessions
