Course Description:
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, insufficient sleep is epidemic in the United States. This course provides background and training in Lifestyle Redesign® occupational therapy interventions for persons experiencing sleep deficits, so that practitioners can empower their clients with self-management strategies for daily life.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will:
- Explain the physiology of typical sleep, and many factors that contribute to sleep deficits and dysfunction
- Describe sleep deficits and disorders, prevalence rates, and comorbid conditions
- Recognize the occupational impact of sleep deficits
- Choose interventions for people experiencing sleep deficits, integrating evidence-based reasoning for each intervention
- Create plans of care that incorporate lifestyle intervention goals
- Identify commonly used clinical outcome assessments to use for people with sleep deficits and disorders
- Discuss relevant documentation, billing, and reimbursement issues when treating this population
- Apply this knowledge to clinical case studies

Audience: This course is designed for OTs, OTAs, and others as an introductory level course; however, all levels of experience are welcome as are all areas of practice.
Prerequisite: The Introduction to Lifestyle Redesign® is a prerequisite to the other courses in the Life Management Series, and must be completed first. The pre-requisite is waived for anyone who has taken the USC OT583 Lifestyle Redesign® course or the AOTA Lifestyle Redesign® Webcast Series, Units 1-6.
CEU Credit: This course is 6 contact hours (.6 CEUs). Participants must complete a post-test and course evaluation in order to receive a certificate of attendance. Participants not fulfilling these requirements will not receive a certificate.
